LISTEN

Listen to Afghan voices and follow Afghan organisations, as well as learning from organisations and news outlets. Boaz Trust recommends Gulwali Passarlay who wrote the book 'The Lightless Sky' about his own journey from Afghanistan to safety, documenting how he navigated the UK asylum system. The Guardian recently featured a brilliant and powerful long read from Zarlasht Halaimzai who fled Afghanistan as a child along with her family and sought refuge in the UK.

Before donating clothes and other items we would urge you to first find out what is needed, most small charities will post on their socials or website if they are in need of certain items, responding to these will be much more appreciated than turning up with donations or asking what the charity may need, many charities may not know yet what they need as most Afghan asylum seekers will have not arrived yet.

SUPPORT

There are some things that charities do that cannot be met by donations, financial support is always welcome, this may not be affordable for some, however, most charities have an option to make a one-off donation or a monthly donation. Some charities may have online shops or regular events you can attend, show your support by making a purchase or buying a ticket.

VOLUNTEER

At Oasis Cardiff we are extremely lucky to have a huge amount of dedicated and amazing volunteers, currently, we are not lacking extra hands, but do keep an eye on our website and socials as well as other charities similar, as they will call out for help when it is needed.

WELCOME

When people do start to arrive all we ask is that our community are warm, welcoming, and understanding. It is also important to remember that there is conflict in places not currently being covered by the media and that we should also show new arrivals from other parts of the world the same Warm Welsh Welcome.

It is important to remember that there are many charities in Wales working towards a similar goal to us and they will likely need your support too.⁠
