From Kabul to Cardiff

Showing solidarity to those who have made the journey...

In honour of Refugee Week 2021 (14th-20th June), we will be showing solidarity with the journeys that refugees and asylum seekers.
From 30th May-31st June, we're going to travel 4821 miles from Kabul to Cardiff, but we can't do it without you!
Let's come together as a community to get #FromKabulToCardiff and show support for the incredible refugees and asylum seekers in our city.

In 2020, 31,752 people made journeys from countries like Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, Eritrea and Albania and made asylum applications in the UK.

Mohammed began his journey in Kabul and is one of the lucky people who survived the traumatising voyage and arrived in Cardiff over 13 years ago after travelling almost 5000 miles by foot and even being smuggled in the back of a van to cross European borders. Watch the video below to hear the full story.

Reynette Roberts MBE, CEO of Oasis Cardiff says, “We hear about so many different journeys that refugees and asylum seekers have to take to reach safety here in Cardiff, but they are all extremely dangerous and traumatic. This is a great way to show solidarity and support this Refugee Week, so get involved!

There are three ways that you can get involved:
To support refugees like Mohammed and show solidarity with his journey From Kabul to Cardiff you can sign up to cycle part of the journey either on static bikes at Oasis Cardiff or remotely via the Strava app.

Oasis Cardiff will also be hosting an outdoor event on Friday 18th June during Refugee Week to get more members of the community involved! You are invited to attend from 6 pm - 9 pm where there will be freshly cooked falafel, continental drinks, and live performances from members of the community.

Here’s how you can support the fundraiser challenge:

Still, want to show your support for refugees and asylum seekers but can’t participate in the challenge? Every donation goes directly towards supporting people who have made difficult journeys to get to safety.

If you’re able to mount a bike then we encourage you to book in a slot to complete a short distance of this journey. You do not need to be an athlete to participate, we need the whole community to get us From Kabul to Cardiff!

If you’re not able to mount a bike and you would still like to get involved, please get in touch so we can explore some options that will work for you.

3. Sign up to be one of our core teams and complete a long-distance cycle: Here

If you love to cycle, are part of a cycling club, want to create a team within your workplace, or just love a challenge, then this option is for you. Teams can be any size and would be able to collectively cycle 800 miles across the month.
